If you are taking your first steps as a surfer, then you will have to learn all the technicalities and words related to this discipline, that is, become an expert both practically and theoretically in the world of surfing. To do this, today's topic will be to know if you are a Goofy or a Regular surfer. Do you already know the answer?

Goofy or regular

Difference between Goofy and Regular

The term "Googy" refers to all those surfers who use their right foot to place it in front of the board, on the contrary, the term "Regular" is attributed to all those who use their left foot at the tip of the board. And we have to tell you that the latter is usually represented by more than 70% of surfers.

But why is there this difference? Well, let's give credit to our brain lobes, they are the ones who decide which of the feet will give us the the balance point. These two terms are also used for sports such as snowboarding, skateboarding and even wakeboard, all of these disciplines that require a type of board in between.

 Finding the position

If you don't know what What kind of surfer are you? Put these exercises into practice!

  • Let yourself be pushed: For this exercise you will need a helper, you must stand with your legs together, back straight and looking straight ahead, simply allow your partner to give you a good push from behind... your body will react by placing one of your feet in front so you don't fall. This will be the indicator, if you put your right foot in front, you are a total Goofy!
  • Go up the stairs: As simple as that, stand in front of some stairs and go up without thinking twice, your brain will automatically do the following:
  • Take off your shoes: Stay in your socks and imagine yourself as a little kid making mischief on the waxed floor of your house. Get into a skating position, take a running stance and slide, the foot you start with will be the one that determines if you are part of that "Regular" majority.

 Surfista positions

Although we have mentioned it on several occasions, the Goofies are a minority but this does not mean that it is bad or is a defect (currently, since in the decade of the 60s, it was frowned upon), simply that the brain works with the opposite side, to the majority.
